Johnathan "Perfect Ten" TenSend was born Michael David Smith on August 22, 1988 to Patricia Ann Cook and Alex David Smith. At the age of five he was enrolled in military school and saw his parents only twice every year at the end of each semester. By the time he graduated in 2005, he had become a good soldier, but not a great one. He immediately enlisted in the United States Army where he received perfect marks in Battle Tactics and Stragetic Command, which was a course containing ten Grade Assignments, earning the nickname "Perfect Ten". At the age of 18 he changed his name to Johnathan Marcus TenSend, completely cutting off contact with his parents later that year. After completing his training he was assigned to Afghanistan along with most of the soldiers he had trained with. He survived his tour of duty in Afghanistan and returned to Twilight City to continue life as a civilian. After failing to hold down a job for longer than a month at a time, he sought employment at Boxer's Gun Shop in Mullview, using his experience and interest in guns to secure his position. He amassed a large collection of antique and modern guns.

Immediately after the outbreak Johnathan barricaded his flat closed and camped on the flat roof with his entire gun collection picking zombies and vampires off from a distance. However, after several weeks of hiding out on his roof he ran out of food, water and ammo, forcing him to leave his house and go searching for supplies. He made his way to a supermarket and came face-to-face with an angry vampire. One that he happened to have unloaded an entire clip into the previous day. The vampire killed him with little effort, and Johnathan became a vampire for the first time. Not long after he was killed again, this time by a man wielding a scythe. After killing him however the man injected him with a strange serum, which brought him back to life. After riding the highs of Revival Serum for several days he found his way to Fort Howard and met Reed Barnes, who recruited him into the Army National Guard Boot Camp, to retrain him for fighting vampires and zombies. He has since been defending the fort, often giving his life for the cause of his superiors.
